Can you sum up a typical day in the life of a General Manager?
Summing up a day in the life of a General Manager is really difficult. One thing I can say is, that it’s not your average 9-5 role. What I expect when I walk in the door is rarely what I end up doing that day. But what I can promise you is that when you leave at the end of the day, you’ve made a difference. Whether it’s a member of staff, a customer, or someone in the local community – I make friends every single day that I come to work.
What is the biggest positive about working for St Austell Brewery?
For me, the biggest positive is that I get to spend time talking to everyone who walks through the door, and sharing their experience.
What made you want to live and work in the South West?
People often ask me why I work and live in the South West of the UK, and it’s really easy. I work in one of the most iconic places, in my opinion, in the world. It gives me the lifestyle I want, in a place that I love.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of applying for a General Manager role at a St Austell Brewery pub?
If any of you are thinking about joining a St Austell Brewery pub, my advice would be – just go for it! Speak to the People team, and see what they have to say. I’ve worked in hospitality for over two decades and talking to the team inspired me to be a part of this family, and that’s why I am here.
