S pring has finally sprung, which means the arrival of warmer days and fun festivals. Devon has a range of exciting excuses to get out in the sun this month, from popular music and food festivals to swashbuckling events that’ll see you set sail with pirates.

Here’s a look at some of the best things to see and do across the county in May.

 

Salcombe Crab Fest (1st)

A day of cracking crab fun awaits at Salcombe Crabfest. The charity event is bursting with things to see and do as it celebrates the town’s fishing and tourism industries. You can expect a programme of demonstrations from local and nationally acclaimed chefs, street stalls, culinary competitions, and live music. Brixham Pirate Festive Cruise (2nd)

Set sail for a swashbuckling day of pirate fun and adventure. It’s been two years since the previous instalment, but Brixham Pirate Festival is set to return with a bang. Dart Music Festival (6th - 8th)

This annual three-day festival is celebrating its 23rd year this month. Dartmouth’s scenic port and town, which rests at the mouth of the River Dart, will host more than 100 performances that span almost every music genre. Venues include two churches, the park’s bandstand, outside the castle, and at a variety of pubs, restaurants, and hotels throughout the week. Better still, it’s all free to listen to. Pirates Weekend Plymouth (7th-8th)

You can continue this month’s pirate theme with a whole weekend of swashbuckling antics at Pirates Weekend Plymouth. Britain’s ocean city will be hosting an eclectic entertainment programme, pirate treasure trail, mesmerising tall ships, sea shanty bands, and plenty of family fun to make it a weekend to remember. Kingsbridge Food & Music Festival (27th - 29th)

The charming town square in Kingsbridge serves as the backdrop to a food and music haven. Festivalgoers will be able to indulge in a tantalising array of locally produced delicacies while listening to a vibrant roster of talented musicians from across the South West.
